DIVISION UPDATES – November 2010
- On October 14th, Governor Chris
Christie submitted the name of
Thomas V. Lyons (Pompton Plains, Morris) to be Director of the Division of
Fire Safety. The nomination is subject to the advice and consent of the
Senate. Lyons is a retired Deputy Fire Chief of
the Clifton Fire Department. He has been Program Coordinator of the Fire
Science Technology program at Passaic
County Community
College. More recently Chief Lyons has been
Director of Public Safety at the College.

- There are several ICC National Certification
Examinations and FEE66 Fire Inspector I Based on 2006 International Codes
testing for new inspectors scheduled
for 2011. The next tests will be
held on Saturday,
March 12 2011, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Burlington County Emergency Services
Training Center, 53 Academy Drive, Westampton, NJ 08060, Saturday, June 11 2011, 8:00 AM - 12:00
PM at Bergen County Fire Academy (Law and Public Safety Institute, Police,
Fire & EMS), 281 Campgaw Road, Mahwah, NJ 07430, Saturday, September
10 2011, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Monmouth County Fire Academy, 1027 Hwy 33
East, Freehold, NJ 07728 and Saturday, December 10 2011, 8:00 AM - 12:00
PM at Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy, 402 Roycefield
Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. The cost
of the exam is $180. The information bulletin may be obtained from

- The Fire Official
& Fire Inspector Retreat will be held at the Middlesex
County Fire
Academy, Sayreville, NJ
on November 4 & 5. YOU MUST HOLD CODE ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR
FIRE OFFICIALS AND FIRE INSPECTORS TO ATTEND. Please refer to the DFS Website at www.state.nj.us/dca/dfs for the
registration information found on page 24 of the Fall 2010 seminar
brochure. The county president’s
meeting has been postponed for Friday, November 5th.
- In place of the Juvenile Firesetters Conference
this year, the Division of Fire Safety and the NJ Chapter IAAI will
sponsor a two-day class by SOS Fires, December 2-3, 2010, at the Middlesex County Fire
Academy, 1001 Fire Academy Drive, Sayreville, NJ 08872. For additional information please go to
